Under Heavy Fire - RATED R

The members of Echo Company, lead by rookie captain Ramsey (Casper Van Dien), experience a disastrous tragedy when several Marines are killed by friendly fire during an assault in Vietnam. Three decades later TV documentarian Kathleen Martin (Carre Otis) brings six of the survivors back to Vietnam to confront their issues and make peace with their former enemies -- but the enemy these days is Ramsey, whom they hold to blame for the deaths of their comrades. Via flashbacks and on-the-scene battle footage, the men come to realize a painful reality, one that results in new violence in the rice patties.

Wedding for Bella - RATED-R

Pastry, Gypsy dancing, and Scott Baio all feature prominently in this independent romantic comedy from Pittsburgh, which focuses on the relationship between three brothers and an elderly Italian couple. Dominic (Baio), Eddie (Billy Mott), and Pino (Shuler Hensley) are brothers who have little in common aside from the bakery they own together. Dominic works for a management firm and specializes in firing people; Pino is mentally handicapped; and Eddie is a womanizer. The brothers are close friends with Massimo and Bella, the Italian couple who live upstairs, and when Dominic learns that Bella is sick, he decides to do whatever he can to make her feel better. This includes a full-fledged attempt to get Massimo and Bella's errant daughter Lucca to come home for Christmas. This being a romantic comedy, it doesn't take long for Dominic to realize that he has other motives for wanting Lucca to come home, motives that don't have a great deal to do with Bella's health. The Bread, My Sweet was screened at the 2002 Philadelphia Festival of World Cinema.

Boy in the plastic bubble pg-13

Welcome Back Kotter star John Travolta headlines the made-for-TV Boy in the Plastic Bubble. Douglas Day Stewart's fact-based teleplay casts Travolta as Tod Lubitsch, a teenager who was born without disease immunities. Tod is forced to live out his life in incubator conditions; whenever he vetnures into the outdoors, he must be encased in a huge plastic bubble. When he falls in love with Gina Biggs (Glynnis O'Connor), Tod must decide between staying safe and following his heart, which would mean facing near-certain death. Diana Hyland won an Emmy for her portrayal of Travolta's mother. Incidentally, Hyland and Travolta became real-life lovers, a relationship that was tragically terminated when the actress died of cancer. Boy in the Plastic Bubble was first telecast November 12, 1976.

Fearless Hyena - RATED-R / karate ft jackie chang

Jackie Chan's first directorial assignment is a showcase for its courageous star, whose considerable reputation rests on his near-masochistic willingness to accept incredible amounts of physical punishment in order to entertain an audience, and, as the title suggests, his ability to laugh about it. Chan plays Shing Lung, a talented but lazy young fighter who disobeys his grandfather's orders not to fight. This proves costly, as the brutal General Yen (Yam Sai-kwoon) is slaughtering all of Shing's grandfather's anti-Ching clan. As soon as Yen hears of Shing's unique fighting style, he hunts down the grandfather (James Tien) and kills him. Shing has to take various jobs (including one as a second-hand coffin salesman) and disguise himself as a pauper and a woman until he is ready to fight the general. Chan Hui-lau plays the crippled master known as the Unicorn, who trains Shing in a deadly form of fighting called "emotional kung-fu," which uses laughter and tears as secret weapons. After a lengthy training sequence in which the long-suffering Chan does 14 sit-ups upside-down without a cut while loudly slamming his back into a tree after each, Shing finally takes on the general and his trio of assistants. For this film, Chan returned to producer Lo Wei's studio to fulfill a contract, then refused to work for the studio again. The producer managed to cobble together a paste-up sequel, Fearless Hyena 2, but was so incensed at Chan that he reportedly used his triad ties to put out a contract on the star, forcing Chan to work in Taiwan for some time rather than returning to Hong Kong.
